Qualifications for the above "Largest" fish awards

  • The weight of the fish must equal or exceed the line class upon which it was caught.
  • The fish must have been caught within Hawaiian waters.
  • The angler must have caught the fish within the requirements of the HBGFC rules, which include IGFA rules.
  • The angler must be a current member of HBGFC.
  • Angler must be registered in the "Four Flags Tournament" at the time of the catch and his or her catch record must be designated "Four Flags".
  • Please refer to HBGFC tournament rules and Four Flags Tournament qualifications.

WESTCOTT AWARD: (Largest Mahimahi on 50# or 30# test line)
Qualifications

  • Fish must have been caught on 50# or 30# test line.
  • The weight of the fish must equal or exceed the line class upon which it was caught.
  • The fish must have been caught within Hawaiian waters.
  • The angler must have caught the fish within the requirements of the HBGFC rules, which include IGFA rules.
  • The angler must be a current member of HBGFC.

ED JENSEN AWARD: (Best Fish on 50# line in regularly scheduled tournament)
Qualifications

  • The greatest fishing achievement on 50# test line.
  • The weight of the fish must equal or exceed the line class upon which it was caught.
  • The fish must have been caught within Hawaiian waters.
  • The angler must have caught the fish within the requirements of the HBGFC rules, which include IGFA rules.
  • The angler must be a current member of HBGFC.
  • The best fish will be determined by weight to line class ratio.

DEAL CROOKER AWARD: (Largest Marlin on 50# line in Four Flags)
Qualifications

  • This award is limited to 50# line only.
  • The fish must have been caught within Hawaiian waters.
  • The angler must have caught the fish within the requirements of the HBGFC rules, which include IGFA rules.
  • The angler must be a current member of HBGFC.
  • Angler must be registered in the "Four Flags Tournament" at the time of the catch and his or her catch record must be designated "Four Flags".

DR. C. J. LOWE AWARD: (Most fish on 50# or 30# line)
Qualifications

  • In all catches, the weight must equal or exceed the line class upon which it was caught.
  • The fish must have been caught within Hawaiian waters.
  • The angler must have caught the fish within the requirements of the HBGFC rules, which include IGFA rules.
  • The angler must be a current member of HBGFC.

FRED GARTLY AWARD: (Most Marlin Tagged & Released during the year)
Qualifications

  • All tag and releases must have been accomplished within Hawaiian waters.
  • All captures, prior to tagging, must have been performed within the requirements of HBGFC rules, which include IGFA rules.
  • All tag and releases must be recorded with the HBGFC Tournament Director by "Catch Report form", completely filled out and accompanied by the tag number.
  • Angler must be a current member of the HBGFC and registered in the "Four Flags Tournament" at the time the tag and release occurs.

GEORGE HOGAN AWARD: (Largest Marlin on 20# line)
Qualifications

  • In all catches, the weight must equal or exceed the line class upon which it was caught.
  • The fish must have been caught within Hawaiian waters.
  • The angler must have caught the fish within the requirements of the HBGFC rules, which include IGFA rules.
  • The angler must be a current member of HBGFC.

CHARLIE'S FISHING SUPPLIES AWARD: (Outstanding Young Angler of the Year)
This award is given to the young angler for the largest fish caught during the same year the award is given.
Qualifications

  • The angler must be a current member of HBGFC or must have participated in the Juniors' Tournament (as an angler) in the year in which the award is given.
  • The fish must have been caught within Hawaiian waters.
  • In the case of a non-club member, only a Catch Report form from the Juniors' Tournament will be eligible.

RUFUS SPALDING AWARD: (Weight to line class ratio in regularly scheduled tournament)
Qualifications

  • This award is open to class line of 130 or under.
  • This catch must have occurred during a regularly scheduled HBFGC tournament and within Hawaiian waters.
  • The angler must have caught the fish within the requirements of the HBGFC rules, which include IGFA rules.
  • The angler must be a current member of HBGFC.
  • Angler must be registered in the "Four Flags Tournament" at the time of the catch and his or her catch record must be designated "Four Flags".

PAM & IRBY BASCO AWARD: (Woman Angler of the Year)
This award is to be given to the woman angler who has achieved the greatest weight to line ratio within the year in which the award is given.
Qualifications

  • The angler must be a current member of HBGFC.
  • Angler must be registered in the "Four Flags Tournament" at the time of the catch and his or her catch record must be designated "Four Flags".
  • Angler must have entered at least two (2) of the five (5) scheduled tournaments in the same year in which the award is given.
  • The fish must have been caught within Hawaiian waters.

LIGHT TACKLE AND ULTRALIGHT TACKLE AWARDS DIVISION

LIGHT TACKLE DIVSION
In the light tackle division, awards will go to the largest fish in each of the following class line categories:
20# test, 16# test, 12# test
An award will als go to the greatest number of accumulated points in each of the class lines shown above.

ULTRALIGHT TACKLE DIVISION
In the ultralight tackle division, awards will go to the largest fish in each of the following class line categories:
8# test, 4# test, 2# test
An award will als go to the greatest number of accumulated points in each of the class lines shown above.

WEIGHT TO LINE CLASS RATIO
An award will go to the catch showing the greatest weight to class line ratio using 20# test or under.

Qualifications

  • An angler (to be eligible) must be a current member of HBGFC and "Four Flags Tournament".
  • Al of the above awards will be limited to catches within the four flag fish and Ulua categories only.
  • Please refer to HBGFC tournament rules and Four Flags Tournament qualifications.

PAN AMERICAN AWARD: (World Record or closest to a World Record)
Qualifications

  • A claim for a world record could be in any class line from 130# and under.
  • If a world record is applied for, the catch report form must be submitted to the Club Tournament Director, along with a copy of the world record application.
  • The fish must have been caught within Hawaiian waters.
  • The angler must have caught the fish within the requirements of the HBGFC rules, which include IGFA rules.
  • Angler must be registered in the "Four Flags Tournament" at the time of the catch and his or her catch record must be designated "Four Flags".

JONATHAN MILLER INTERNATIONAL TROPHY AWARD: Sponsored by GEORGE AND SHARON HANDGIS
This trophy is awarded to the angler fishing outside the state of Hawaii with the greatest achievement in the Flag Fish category during the year in which the award is given.
Qualifications

  • This award is open to line class of 130#s or under.
  • This award will be determined by the greatest weight to line ratio.
  • The angler must be a current member of HBGFC and must be registered in the "Four Flags Tournament" at the time of the catch and his or her catch record must be designated "Four Flags".
  • Angler's completed Catch Report form must be received by the Tournament Director within 30 days of the catch.

GRAY TAXIDERMY / OVERSEA INSURANCE AWARD: (Annual Skippers Marlin Trophy / Most points for billfish over 300 pounds)
This prize will go to the skipper who registers the most accumulative points for billfish weighed during the period of the Four Flags Annual Tournament.
Qualifications

  • The fish must have been caught within Hawaiian waters.
  • The angler must have caught the fish within the requirements of the HBGFC rules, which include IGFA rules.
  • The skipper (to be eligible) must be a current member of HBGFC and must be registered in the "Four Flags Tournament" at the time of the catch and his or her catch record must be designated "Four Flags".
  • This award is open to class line of 130 or under.
  • Please refer to HBGFC tournament rules and Four Flags Tournament qualifications.

HBGFC SKIPPERS AWARD (Most tagged and released billfish points)
This trophy will go to the skipper who registers the most accumulated points by the tagging and releasing of billfish.
Qualifications

  • In all catches, the weight must equal or exceed the line class upon which it was caught.
  • A tagged & released fish (to be eligible) must have been fought by the skipper or his charter angler, and caught within Hawaiian waters.
  • The angler must have caught the fish within the requirements of the HBGFC rules, which include IGFA rules.
  • The skipper (to be eligible) must be a current member of HBGFC and must be registered in the "Four Flags Tournament" at the time of the catch and his or her catch record must be designated "Four Flags".
  • The catch report form (if caught by a charter angler) must be completed by the charrter angler and signd by the charter angler and the skpper. If fought by the skipper, the catch report form must be completed by the skipper and signed by a witness to the release.

SERVICE AWARDS

FRANK COSTANZA AWARD: (Service to Club and Community)
This award goes to an individual who has, within the year in which the award is given, contributed outstanding service to the club and community.
Qualifications

  • Trophy Committee to accept nominations from club members or the community.
  • Trophy Committee to submit all nominations to the Club Board of Directors.
  • Trophy Committee and the Board of Directors will vote on the committee's nominations.

ALLEN PERRY AWARD: (Special Contribution to Sportfishing)
This award goes to the individual whose unusual services and efforts, throughout the yea in which the award is given, have contributed to the betterment and preservation o the world o sportfishing.
Qualifications

  • Eligibility is not limited to membership in HBFGC.
  • Trophy Committee to accept nominations from club members and/or the community.
  • Trophy Committee to submit nominations to the Club Board of Directors.
  • Trophy Committee and the Board of Directors will vote on the nominations.

CAPT. DAWLEY AWARD: (Highest Award the HGBFC can give)
This award goes to the individual who, during the ensuing years, has VOLUNTARILY contributed the most to sportfishing in Hawaii.
Qualifications

  • Eligibility for this award is limited to membership in the HBGFC.
  • The Trophy Committee will accept nominations from the membership or the community.
    Trophy Committee will decide who is to receive the award and will inform the club President.
  • In the event the Trophy Committee cannot reach a decision regarding this award, they will bring it before the Board of Directors for discussion. The Board will then vote with the Committee.
  • The club President will announce the name of the recipient at the HBGFC Annual Awards Banquet.
