How it Works:
The situation on the ground on Maui is chaotic and constantly evolving. HBGFC Board members are on the Big Island and our friends and associates on Maui told us it is imperative to make sure that funds go to folks they know to be in need. We rely on the folks on the ground on Maui to bring us candidates with at least one Reference, vouching for the candidate.
Then we review their application and work to get them some cash. It is that simple.
Who Can Apply:
The Maui Fishery Community Fire Emergency Relief Fund Support Award Criteria: Applicants for Support may be anyone who can show a direct loss by the fires with a fishery connect. The criteria may include but is not limited to: loss of subsistence, loss of boat, loss of fisherman(s) home, and/or loss of livelihood connected to fishing or the Maui fishery such as but not limited to fuel dock workers, servers catering to fishermen, sundry store owners and workers, fish processors, fishery science workers. Additional connections not recognized at the onset of establishment of The Fund may be allowed, due to the many unknowns of this tragedy at the time of establishing The Fund.
