The Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club has just installed three monofilament fishing line recycling bins, at Honokohau Marina. Old fishing line can be easily disposed of in these bins, and it will be recycled into building material for park benches.
The new recycling bins are conveniently located at the two rubbish enclosures, one each on the north and south side of the harbor, and on the fence at the Division of Aquatic Resources office.
The project was undertaken as part of the DLNR-BOR’s Adopt-A-Harbor program, and was undertaken in cooperation withthe Club’s conservation partner, the Hawaii Wildlife Fund, with support from several local businesses who donated the pipe materials, including Dorvin Leis and Furguson.
A box of discarded line collected from HBGFC bins is boxed and ready to send to Berkley Line for recycling.
